I am very grateful that the Torres Shelter is here. If it were not I'd be living under a bridge, under a tree or anywhere in the cold harsh weather. Both my husband and I are happy that we can stay somewhere together. (It's just a bummer we aren't in our own room! Smile!) I can testify to this; the staff does their best in time of need. I'm sure just like anywhere you go you find great people. The Torres Shelter has some really great staff and volunteer personnel. If it were not for this place, I don't know what would have happened with me and my husband. Thank you Torres Shelter, for I am grateful. —Maria

Hello, I just wanted to say thank you for letting me stay at your facility last fall. I'm the guy who jumped a greyhound here from Minnesota (you have SO many, I'm sure it's hard to remember) & was homeless. Since staying with you, I got a job raking leaves for a guy here in Paradise & word spread quickly about my honesty & work ethic. In the last 5 months, I have gotten my driver’s license, bought a nice work truck & have started my own contracting business & have a wonderful safe home to live in & a really cool dog. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me & God Bless! Sincerely, Leslie

To Staff & Guests at the Torres Shelter: I would like to thank all of you for your kindness, friendship and treating me with respect through a very hard time in my life! May God bless you all. Love your friend, Johnny

The Torres Shelter has been extremely helpful with supporting those who have come in from the cold harsh streets of Chico, California. I have not yet found anything disruptive or discouraging to my wife or myself. All of the staff and volunteers thus far have gone far above and far beyond their duties to help us all. Both my wife and myself are truthfully grateful and blessed to be allowed to be a part of the Torres family and feel extremely thankful to be seen as an actual person in the eye’s of the Torres Shelter, where other people might see us all as bums, hobos or vagrant garbage. So: Torres Shelter you rock! —A.J., Jan. 2010

My name is Shawn and I am a guest at the Torres Shelter and I am grateful for this shelter. I needed a place to go and get myself back together so I can be a good father for my daughter. That starts with fixing my life first and the Torres Shelter is helping me do that. I would like to thank the staff for being so down to Earth, and taking the time to work with people who need help in bad times, and not judging people before they get to know them for everybody has some kind of good in them. They just need the right people to bring it out of them, and I think the staff at the TORRES SHELTER is the right people for this. So from the bottom of my heart thank you for everything. It's changed my life in a short time so keep this blessing alive and going for a long time to come. God bless, and try to keep the laughter always in this shelter for that is the most positive thing I have taken from here. Stay positive and don't ever stop fighting for what you want--this staff here is not going to give up on you if you really try. Thank you again Torres Shelter. —Shawn, 1/14/10

I want to thank the staff at the Torres Shelter for helping people who are down on their luck. My stay here was very pleasant. The food was good and you were able to take a hot shower, and the staff was wonderful. I came here scared, confused and very unsure of myself. I’m leaving here with a plan for my recovery and a lot more confident. I owe it all to the Torres Shelter. What you offer here is hope, and that’s all we can ask for. I believe that people who come here have a real good chance to make it in the outside world. Yours truly, Mike

This is a letter of thanks to all the members of the Torres Shelter and all of the people in the community and programs that support it. Thanks for giving us a safe place to rest our heads, a dry place to sleep and food in our bellies. Thanks for the staff for being so patient with my daughter always trying her best to get into all the things she wasn’t suppose to. I want to thank all of the staff there for being the great people they are for having the caring in their hearts to do the job they do. Without the Torres Shelter I really don’t know where or what my family and I would have done. If you need help with some kind of volunteer stuff give us a call. Thank you very much.

A family came to the Torres Shelter after legal issues and bouts of addiction. They had been living out of a tent in an aunt’s back yard after hitting rock bottom. In the father’s own words, “We looked at different shelters in the area but I could not bring myself to expose my family to the type of environments they had to offer. We finally found the Torres Shelter and were blown away by the structure and cleanliness it had to offer. We decided this is where we wanted to get our lives back on track and reach the goals we have. We now have the life we’ve always wanted, and when we do leave the shelter it will be with our lives intact and a good future. We will miss the staff of Torres Shelter, as they have provided a lot of support, caring, respect and dignity to our family. They helped us to reunite and become closer…the food’s not bad either!”
